SHC68 C68 Cable Types: D1, D2, D3, D4 Comparison

By RF Wireless Expert Team

This page outlines the differences between SHC68 C68 cable types (D1, D2, D3, D4) and specifically compares the SH68 68 D1, D2, D3 and SHC68-C68-D4 cables.

Introduction

SHC-C68 cables are manufactured by National Instruments (NI). There are four primary types of SHC-C68 cables, each designed with specific connector types, impedance characteristics, shielding levels, and intended applications in mind.

The figure above illustrates a high-speed digital cable from National Instruments, specifically the SHC68-C68 type.

SH68-68-D1 Cable

  • Connector A/B: Female 0.050 D-type
  • Shielding: Single
  • Impedance: 79 Ohm
  • Applications: Recommended for use with counter/timer devices.

SHC68-C68 D2 Cable

  • Connector A/B: VHDCI
  • Shielding: Single
  • Impedance: 50 Ohm
  • Availability: No longer available; replaced by the D4 type.

SHC68-C68 D3 Cable

  • Connector A/B: VHDCI
  • Shielding: Double
  • Impedance: 100 Ohm
  • Applications: Used for DDC (Digital Data and Control).

SHC68-C68 D4 Cable

  • Connector A/B: VHDCI
  • Shielding: Single
  • Impedance: 50 Ohm
  • Applications: Used for HSDIO (High-Speed Digital I/O).
