What is LiTRA: LTE Integrated Trunked Radio Explained
Advertisement
LiTRA (LTE Integrated Trunked Radio) is a communication technology that combines the broadband capabilities of LTE networks with the mission critical voice services of traditional trunked radio systems. LiTRA enables seamless voice, video and data communication, improving coverage, interoperability, operational efficiency and situational awareness for public safety, transportation, utility and enterprise communication networks. This page explains LiTRA basics and depicts LiTRA network diagram.
LiTRA stands for LTE Integrated Trunked Radio.
Introduction
LiTRA is based on the 3GPP standard and LTE networks. It’s a trunking communications solution developed by Huawei. It helps operators deliver network solutions to customers requiring high security and safety.
Figure 1: LiTRA network
Figure 1 depicts a LiTRA network built upon an existing LTE network. This system, developed by Huawei, provides mission-critical communication.
It’s used for mission-critical applications over LTE. As shown, the LiTRA server and dispatch console are two new system components added to the existing LTE network.
Installing a mobile client on the LTE smartphone is necessary to communicate with the LiTRA server. LiTRA network uses GCS AS (Group Communication Service Application Server). The system requires upgrading the LiTRA software package in the eNodeB.
LiTRA Network Deployment
The following table outlines the key actions required to deploy a LiTRA network:
| Network component | New addition | Upgradation |
|---|---|---|
| EPC | LiTRA server | - |
| E-UTRAN | - | LiTRA Software package |
| Command center | Dispatch Console | - |
| Terminal | Rugged phone recommended Soft terminal | - |
Typical Critical Applications
Typical critical applications where LiTRA is used include:
- Push to Video
- Video surveillance
- Video dispatch service
- GIS based dispatch service
