NFC phones are smartphones equipped with Near Field Communication technology that enables short-range wireless data exchange between compatible devices. These phones support contactless payments, digital access control, device pairing, public transport ticketing, identity verification, and smart home interactions while providing convenience and enhanced user experiences.
What is NFC?
NFC stands for Near Field Communication. An NFC phone is simply a phone with an embedded NFC tag. It’s a contactless communication method that enables data exchange between two devices over a short distance.
How NFC Works
NFC communication relies on electromagnetic (EM) waves at a frequency of 13.56 MHz. One device initiates the field, and the other responds. NFC devices can be either passive or active.
- Active Device: Possesses its own power source.
- Passive Device: Derives power through electromagnetic induction from the active device.
For a connection to be established, the distance between NFC devices must be less than 10cm. The maximum data transmission rate is 424 Kbps, though the actual speed varies depending on the specific NFC tag type.
