EnOcean devices are wireless automation products that use energy harvesting technology to operate without conventional batteries. Commonly deployed in smart buildings, industrial automation, and IoT applications, these devices include sensors, switches, controllers, and gateways that enable energy efficient monitoring, control and communication through self powered wireless networks.
Introduction to EnOcean
EnOcean is a self-powered energy harvesting wireless technology. It primarily operates in sub-1 GHz frequency bands. However, EnOcean devices operating at 2.4 GHz have also been developed for IoT applications. Common EnOcean devices include switches, actuators and controllers, sensors, gateways, and other accessories. At the time of writing, approximately 200 compatible EnOcean devices have been developed by 50 different manufacturers.
To ensure seamless interoperability, protocols are well-defined and integrated into modules. Sensor profiles are implemented, and each device is assigned a unique 32-bit transmission ID.
