This page describes the GSM Standalone Dedicated Control Channel (SDCCH). The SDCCH is a signaling channel that exists between a GSM Mobile device and a GSM BTS (Base Transceiver Station).
This SDCCH channel operates independently of the TCH (Traffic Channel).
It’s always present, and there’s no “frame stealing” required, which simplifies the communication process. It carry signaling messages between Mobile Subscriber and Base Transceiver Station (BTS).

Before traffic channel is allocated, SDCCH handles very essential control messages or procedures.
