Kvaser Launches New Four-Channel LIN Interface for Auto Testing

Kvaser, a global leader in CAN and LIN bus connectivity solutions, has announced the release of a new four channel Local Interconnect Network (LIN) interface. Engineered specifically for automotive communication testing and diagnostics, this new hardware aims to streamline the development, simulation and troubleshooting of modern vehicle body electronics.
As automotive architectures become increasingly complex, the new multi-channel interface provides engineers with a highly efficient tool to monitor and interact with multiple LIN sub-networks simultaneously from a single PC connection.

While high speed protocols like CAN FD and Automotive Ethernet are used for critical systems like powertrain and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the LIN bus remains the undisputed standard for low speed, cost sensitive applications.
Modern vehicles utilize dozens of independent LIN buses to control body electronics, including power windows, seat adjusters, ambient lighting, climate control, and windshield wipers. Because these systems do not require high bandwidth, LIN provides a highly cost effective, single wire communication method. However, the sheer volume of LIN networks in a single vehicle has created a challenge for test engineers, who historically needed multiple single channel interfaces to test different subsystems at once.

Simultaneous Multi-Channel Testing: The ability to connect to up to four independent LIN buses concurrently. This is critical for end of line (EOL) testing, hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation, and complex diagnostic procedures where multiple body control modules must be monitored at the same time.

Master and Slave Emulation: Like other advanced Kvaser LIN products, the interface can be configured via software to act as either a LIN Master or a LIN Slave. This allows developers to simulate a main Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to test peripheral sensors, or simulate the sensors to test the main ECU.

Galvanic Isolation: The interface features robust galvanic isolation to protect both the testing PC and the vehicle’s electrical systems from voltage spikes, ground loops, and transient currents commonly found in automotive environments.

Seamless Software Integration: The device is fully compatible with Kvaser’s universal API, which includes the LINlib library (bundled within the widely used Kvaser CANlib SDK). This ensures that engineers can easily integrate the new four channel hardware into existing custom test scripts (written in Python, C, or C#) or third party analysis software without having to rewrite their code.
By introducing a dedicated four-channel LIN solution, Kvaser is helping to declutter testing environments.
