Difference between Zigbee XBEE series1 and XBEE series2

The XBEE chip manufactured by Digi International has different types of radio physical hardware. XBEE series1 hardware radio uses microchip made by freescale while XBEE series2 hardware radio uses microchip from Ember Networks. XBEE series2 is popular and used for zigbee mesh networking. This page mentions difference between XBEE series1 and XBEE series2 zigbee radio. Series 2B is also available from Digi which supports improvement in existing features and provide additional features.
