TDD vs TDMA

This page on TDD vs TDMA describes difference between TDD and TDMA.

TDD

TDD stands for Time Division Duplex. It is the topology adopted to make communication between two wireless devices at one frequency but with two different time instants. For Example in WiMAX, TDD frame is employed which will be divided into downlink subframe and uplink subframe. Here downlink is from BS to SSs and uplink from SS to BS. In the air it forms TDD frame. There is another topology such as FDD,which utilizes two different frequencies for communication at the same time, one frequency for transmit and another for receive.

TDMA

TDMA stands for Time Division Multiple Access. It is one of the technique to make use of the common resources such as frequency or PN codes etc. For example in GSM, with TDMA frequency is shared among multiple Mobile Stations. There are other multiple access techniques such as FDMA,CDMA etc.
