SCR (Thyristor)
This page covers SCR (Thyristor) basics and provides SCR or thyristor manufacturers.

SCR (Thyristor) is a four layer semiconductor device having three terminals. It is referred as SCR as it is a rectifier which can control power supplied to a load with little wastage of energy.

When SCR is forward biased, it does conduct until a positive voltage is applied to the gate terminal. Conduction continues till gate voltage is removed. This can happen when supply voltage is switched off or reversed or anode current falls below a certain value.
Figure-2 depicts, DC power control by the SCR(thyristor). In this circuit when S1 is closed, the lamp L stays off.
When Switch S2 get closed; results into flow of gate current and hence SCR will be fired and lights the lamp.
When S2 will be made open, lamp will become off.
