K Band Frequency Values | K Band Frequency Advantages,Applications

This page mentions K Band Frequency Values, K Band Frequency Applications and advantages of K Band frequency.

Frequency Band Designation Frequency Range Wavelength
K Band 18 to 27 GHz 1.7 to 1.1 cm

The K band frequency lies between Ku Band and Ka Band as shown in the figure-1 below. As mentioned in the table, it lies from 18 GHz to 27 GHz in the frequency spectrum with wavelengths between 1.1 centimeters to 1.7 centimeters.

K Band Frequency Advantages

Following are the advantages of K Band Frequency over other frequency bands.
➨As K band is in between Ku band Ka band. It supports throughput higher than Ku band and lower than Ka band.
➨Its antenna size is smaller than Ku band and larger than Ka band.
➨K band is more susceptible to rain fading compare to Ku band and less susceptible compare to Ka band.

The disadvantages of K band are as follows.
➨ K band frequencies have high atmospheric attenuation and hence can not be used for long distance communication. Hence it is used for short range communication.
