Advantages of Ultrasonic cleaner | Disadvantages of Ultrasonic cleaner or cleaning

This page covers advantages and disadvantages of Ultrasonic cleaner or cleaning. It mentions Ultrasonic cleaner advantages and Ultrasonic cleaner disadvantages. It provides link to basics of ultrasonic cleaning process used in ultrasonic cleaner.

Introduction:
The ultrasonic cleaning works based on bubbles creation in the liquid agents due to ultrasonic frequency waves from 20 KHz to 200 KHz range. These bubbles get implodes and results into mechanical energy in the form of shock waves.

There are two main components in the ultrasonic cleaner viz. generator and transducer. The generator converts electrical energy received from power mains at 50/60 Hz to desired ultrasonic frequency. Later transducer converts electrical energy from generator into mechanical vibrations.

Ultrasonic cleaning is used to clean metals, lenses, jewellary, dental tools, watches, screws etc. It is used to clean objects from dirt, dust, oil, grease, grime and other contaminants.

Advantages of Ultrasonic cleaner

Following are the advantages of Ultrasonic cleaner:
➨It requires less time to clean the components.
➨It is more efficient compare to other methods in removing contaminants.
➨Life span of components cleaned by this method increases. The finished surface reduces wear and friction.
➨The number of rejected parts are reduced and hence cost of materials will be less.
➨With higher energy levels, it has ability to reach small crevices and ability to remove surface soils.
➨Solvent expenses have been reduced to greater extent.
➨This method is environmentally friendly as reduces emissions and bio-degradable waste.
➨Water is best to use as detergent as it is non-toxic, non-flammable and environment friendly. Moreover cavitation energy in water based solution is more intense compare to other organic solvents.

Disadvantages of Ultrasonic cleaner

Following are the disadvantages of Ultrasonic cleaner:
➨The efficiency of transducer affects both cleaning time as well as efficacy achieved during cleaning cycle. Hence it is advisable to purchase reputed brand ultrasonic cleaner.
➨Other factors such as heat, power, frequency, detergent type and time influence overall cleaning process.
➨It is made of electronic parts, which has susceptibility of damage due to excess temperatures. Hence optimum temperature levels are being maintained as recommended by ultrasonic cleaner manufacturer.
➨Temperature need to be maintained appropriately. This is due to the fact that temperature reaches boiling point of solution; liquid will boil in negative pressure areas of sound waves. This reduces or eliminates cavitation.
➨Ultrasonic cleaning requires skilled operator. Moreover it requires one to go through user manual before the start of the cleaning process.
