What is GPRS?
GPRS is the short form of General Packet Radio Service. GSM was designed for circuit switched network. It is GPRS which added packet switching functionality to GSM network. GPRS was added to GSM specifications in release 97. This has enabled to deliver internet on mobile devices connected on GSM network. One has to check whether GPRS feature is available on the mobile to be purchased.
GPRS delivers data rate of about 50 Kbps compare to its predecessor GSM which has about 9.6 kbps data rate.
