751-3 Railway communication system basics
This page covers basics of 751-3 used as Railway communication system.
In Europe, track to train mobile communication systems were based on UIC standard viz. 751-3 issued in the year 1970.
It supports voice communication and data message communication. The short data message can be transmitted using 2-tone FSK modulation.
In this 751-3 based system, particular frequecies are assigned to all the geographical areas. Mobile device will switch automatically to the asigned frequency in the region as it enters in the area. Any mobile device can transmit in the channel and any device in the nearby region can listen.

• Frequency: 460 MHz
• Effective Bandwidth: 25KHz (per voice channel)
• Call Setup Time: <1 Sec
• Group calls and emergency calls are supported
• No WAN support
• Roaming, authentication and encryption not supported
• Limited handover supported
