Introduction: UWB technology uses short duration pulses at ultra low power. It uses signal with low power (< -41.3 dBm/MHz) and wide bandwidth (> 500 MHz) which makes it ideal for short range wireless communication, location and tracking, secured connections due to its noise like characteristics etc. There are three bands used in UWB network within 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz range.
The figure depicts typical UWB network consisting of UWB anchors and UWB tags fitted on various items/objects. Mobile phones or smartphones are also available with embedded UWB chips. Anchors and tags communicate with each other to determine distance between them and their locations (i.e. XYZ position).
