WiMAX Registration procedure used by Subscriber station(SS)
This page describes fixed wimax registration procedure as per IEEE 802.16 OFDM MAC layer specifications. It covers registration messages such as REG REQ and REG RSP as per wimax standard.
The purpose here is to allow SS entry into wimax network and make it manageable.
The registration procedure is outlined below.
• SS transmits REG-REQ message to BS.
• BS responds with REG RSP message including secondary management CID if the SS is managed SS.
• Managed SS will establish secondary management connection and configure its IP connectivity.
• A unmanaged SS will setup provisioned connections.
WiMAX compliant SS and BS will negotiate IP version during REG REQ and REG RSP message exchange if the SS is managed. After the registration is done, SS shall invoke DHCP mechanisms to obtain IP connectivity.
