Mobile antenna types-whip,helical,microstrip patch antenna
This page covers mobile antenna basics and types viz. whip antenna, helical antenna and microstrip patch antenna.
As we know antenna is the device which receives electromagnetic waves and converts it into electrical form so that we can listen or browse interent on the mobile. Mobile antenna basically converst EM wave into electrical signal form and vice versa. It is basically made of metal and will be in the forms such as rod, wire or strip. The most common outer antenna used with mobile phone is helical antenna and the most common used inner antenna type is microstrip patch antenna.
Following antenna parameters are very useful in choosing the right one for your application. It includes resonant frequency, polarization, impedance, radiation pattern, efficiency, directivity and gain of the antenna. Refer antenna tutorial to know more about antenna concepts and terminologies.

The most conventional mobile phone antennas are whip or helical or planar inverted F antenna. The whip antenna is a single element antenna which can be used along with unbalanced feed line. Microstrip line consists of a metal strip on a dielectric substrate covered by a ground plane on the other side. The advanced antennas available today use patch antennas in their design due to smaller size and easy to integrate with rest of the circuitry on PCB.
