What is Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) in 5G NR and 4G LTE ?

This page describes dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS). It mentions difference between static spectrum and dynamic spectrum.

The concept of DSS (Dynamic Spectrum Sharing) allows operation of both 5G NR and 4G LTE in the same frequency spectrum. Moreover it permits allocation of frequencies to mobile devices as per demand of users. This is called dynamic allocation of frequency resources from a pool of spectrum.

Example without DSS:
40 MHz spectrum is divided into two parts in which one part (say 20 MHz) is used for 4G LTE users and the other part (say remaining 20 MHz) is used for 5G NR users. This leads to inefficient usage of spectrum as dedicated spectrum is allocated for LTE and 5G users. If the spectrum is not being used by LTE, the entire part of spectrum goes wasted.

Example with DSS (Dynamic Spectrum Sharing):
40 MHz spectrum is shared among 4G LTE and 5G NR users. This offers efficient usage of spectrum without any unused parts. Figure depicts the concept of DSS.
