Micro LED vs Mini LED | Difference between Micro LED and Mini LED

This page compares Micro LED vs Mini LED and mentions difference between Micro LED and Mini LED types.

Introduction:
Mini LED and Micro LED are latest innovations in LED industry. Both of these LED types have bright future due to their use in smartphones, TVs, displays, laptops and so on. The main difference between them is their size. Due to this, both find applications in different areas. Mini LED (100 to 200 µm) is larger in size than Micro LED (< 100 µm).

Mini LED

Mini LED

Mini LED display uses LED backlight to rovide primary source of brightness which passes through LCD matrix and set of color filters to deliver us image on the screen. Mini LED based TV uses thousands of LEDs to power its backlight due to drastic reduction in the led size. It is higher in cost but offers higher dynamic Range and reduction in power consumption.

The benefits of mini LED are as follows.
• Easier mass production• Higher yield rate • Greater control over local dimming• Better contrast • Better brightness• better black levels etc.

Micro LED

Micro LED

The micro LED technology consists of miniaturized LED with matrix. This LED unit is smaller than 100 micrometers in which each pixel is individually addressed and driven to emit light. Micro LEDs use inorganic materials such as Gallium Nitrate (GaN) which are self emitting and do not need back light for its operation.

The benefits of Micro LED are as follows.
• High luminous efficiency• Thinner• Lighter• less power consumtion • wider viewing angle• long life• shorter response time• higher resolution etc.
