Advantages of LED bulb | Disadvantages of LED bulb
This page covers advantages and disadvantages of LED bulb. It mentions LED bulb advantages and LED bulb disadvantages.
Introduction:
The LED (Light Emitting Diode) is semiconductor device which
does conversion of electricity into light.
LED bulbs are better to produce light in single direction
compare to incandescent bulbs or fluorescent bulbs.
Advantages of LED Bulb
Following are the advantages of LED Bulb:
➨LED lights are rugged and damage resistant compare to
fluorescent/incandescent bulb types.
➨The use of LED bulb incurs
lower cost on long run due to its long life, low maintenance cost and
energy savings.
➨LED bulb does not use mercury. It is environmental friendly
as it generates lower heat. Moreover it can be recycled.
LED bulbs do not use any hazardous materials, it do not generate any hazardous
waste.
➨LED lighting does not emits UV or infrared rays.
Hence this light is harmless light.
➨It can be controlled in full range e.g.
dimmable, warm white, natural white and cool white.
➨High quality light distribution can
be achieved using LED lighting.
➨LED lights can be switched on with almost zero
delay compare to filament based lighting.
➨LED bulbs can be designed into different shapes and sizes.
➨LED bulbs produce almost no heat and hence one
can save on air conditioners.
➨LED bulbs do not flicker and hence do not cause any
RF interference and hence it is easier to the eyes.
Disadvantages of LED Bulb
Following are the disadvantages of LED Bulb:
➨It is more expensive compare to incandescent lights
during initial purchase.
➨It shifts color due to aging and temperature variation.
➨It must be powered with correct voltage and current at
constant flow.
➨It is restricted by the technology.
➨It causes backward heat dissipation towards emitter.
