Following are frequencies used in different 5G NR bands and their functions or purposes.
Band n28
- Frequency : 700 MHz
- Function : Frequencies in this band; penetrates buildings easily. It provides extensive coverage. Best for rural and suburban areas.
Band n5
- Frequency : 850 MHz
- Function : Frequencies in this band; are good for low density areas. It enhances signal reliability indoors. It expands coverage in remote areas.
Band n41
- Frequency : 2.5 GHz
- Function : It offers decent range and speed and hence it is used to bridge the gap between low band and mmwave band of frequencies. Used in both urban and suburban areas.
Band n78
- Frequency : 3.5 GHz
- Function : Strikes balance between speed and coverage. Supports most urban deployments.
Band n79
- Frequency : 4.9 GHz
- Function : Higher capacity and shorter range, supports advanced applications like IoT, ideal for densely populated cities.
Band n258
- Frequency : 24 GHz
- Function : Limited coverage area, Extremely high speed and best for dense urban areas.
Band n261
- Frequency : 28 GHz
- Function : Crucial for future high bandwidth applications, requires line of sight for optimal performance, pushes boundaries of 5G speed.
