What is CO2 sensor and how it works ?
The CO2 sensor has been developed to address the measurement requirement of concentration of CO2 in the air. It is mainly used to monitor air quality indoors. It is used for various applications such as air conditioners, air purifiers, ventilators, smart speakers, thermostats, baby monitors, indoor air quality monitor, smart lighting, outdoor lighting, in-cabin air quality monitoring unit etc.

Infineon Technologies AC has launched CO2 sensor with part number XENSIV PAS CO2.
This CO2 sensor has built-in microcontroller which converts CO2 value to
ppm value. It supports various interfaces viz. I2C, UART and PWM.
It works based on PAS (photoacoustic spectroscopy) principle.
This sensor uses MEMS microphone which detects change in pressure generated by CO2 molecules
within the cavity of the sensor.
Example #2 :
Process Sensing Technologies offers NDIR (Non-dispersive Infrared) sensors.
This sensor contains infrared source, light tube, BPF (Band Pass Filter) and piezoelectric detector
Infrared source and detector is placed opposite to each other.
When CO2 gas is absent in between them, detector produces more output.
When CO2 gas is present in between them, detector produces less output.
For CO2 gas, sensor uses common wavelength of about 4.26 µm which is absorbed by CO2 and
not by other gases.
