5G mmwave chipset manufacturers | 5G Millimeter wave SoC vendors

This page mentions list of 5G mmwave chipset manufacturers or vendors. The popular manufacturers of 5G mmwave chipsets or SoCs are Samsung, Qualcomm, Analog Devices, MediaTek, Sierra Wireless, Quectel etc.

What is 5G mmwave ?

The fifth generation new radio (5G NR) is the first mobile technology which will make use of mmwave spectrum. It uses frequencies in the millimeter wave range such as 24 GHz, 28 GHz, 39 GHz and higher. The mmwave spectrum provides large bandwidth and hence it can deliver higher data rates. Moreover antennas at these frequencies are very small which can be packed in smaller area and can provide higher gain and beamforming capabilities. There antennas are easily integrated in 5G mobile handsets.

5G NR operates in FR1 and FR2 bands. Sub-GHz frequencies from 450 to 6000 MHz are supported in FR1 band. Millimeter wave frequencies from 24250 to 52600 MHz are supported in FR2 band. FR2 mmwave bands are n257 (26.5 to 29.5 GHz) , n258 (24.250 to 27.500 GHz) , n260 (37 GHz to 40 GHz), n261 ( 27.5 GHz to 28.35 GHz) etc. Typical mmwave components used in 5G NR (New radio) mobile cellular system include mmwave antenna, mmwave transceivers, mmwave RF front ends, mmwave filters, mmwave beamforming ICs etc.
