Introduction: In this app note we will touch upon tracking device based on LoRaWAN. LoRaWAN is low power and long range wireless system which operates in various frequency bands throughout the globe. Tracking device helps to track the elderly people, children and consignments by sitting at one place.

LoRaWAN Tracking Device Design

The figure depicts block diagram of LoRaWAN Tracking Device. As shown it consists of microcontroller, LoRaWAN transceiver IC and GPS/GNSS sensor.

The tracking device is connected with LoRaWAN network through Gateway and its infrastructure such as servers running on cloud. The web app or mobile app can be developed to track its exact location while the device is moving from place to place. Let us see working of the tracking device.

➨GPS/GNSS IC provides latitude/longitude information to the microcontroller.
➨Microcontroller stores the information and uploads to the LoRaWAN network using Transceiver IC as shown.
➨The mobile app or web app reads the location information from cloud.
➨Cloud services are available from various companies such as ThingSpeak, Google Cloud IoT Core, IBM Watson IoT Platform, SensorCloud, Adafruit cloud and so on.
