As it is entirely new technology without any legacy support,it is very costly and

LTE follow cellular standards such as HSPA, WCDMA, GSM etc but it is
designed mainly for data applications. It is also referred as all IP data network.
Voice over LTE is also possible using legacy fall backs and using VOIP protocols.
