DSP Terminology

OFDM Full form is Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing. It is multi carrier system where in different data symbols are transmitted over multiple carriers densely packed side by side. It helps in increasing the data rate of the system. OFDM comparison with Single carrier
OFDMA Full form is Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access. In this technique, resource allocation is done on both time and frequency axis for each user. OFDM vs OFDMA
FFT The technique used to convert time domain signal to the frequency domain version. It is used for various calculations as well as for representing the signal in its frequency domain view. FFT basic
Interpolation The technique used to increase the sampling rate of the signal is referred as interpolation. interpolation basics
Decimation The technique used to decrease the sampling rate of the signal is referred as decimation. decimation basics
Correlation The technique used to compare the two time domain signals. There are auto and cross correlations which help explore matching and unmatching parts between the two signals. correlation basics with matlab code
Convolution The technique used to filter out the time domain signal for various applications such as filtering, adding the channel response etc. convolution basics with matlab code
FIR Stands for Finite Impulse Response. FIR
IIR Stands for Infinite Impulse Response. IIR filter
scrambler The circuit used to remove long string of ones and zeroes is referred as scrambler. This helps in meeting adjacent channel interference requirement. The main gate is the EX-OR gate used in this circuit. scrambler and descrambler basics with matlab code
Interleaver This is basically a permutation technique which permutes the data such that they will not be contiguously transmitted over the adjacent subcarriers. The adjacent symbols get distributed over the subcarriers. Reed solomon encoder It works in tandem with RS decoder at the receiver side and Reed solomon encoder at the transmitter side. It is a FEC technique used to correct block of errors. Reed solomon encoder basics
